The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario (Windsor-Essex County Chapter) received close to $29,000 at the Thursday, March 24, 2011 meeting of the Windsor St. Clair Rotary Club. The monies were raised at the 2010 Rotary Auction on TV COGECO, a partnership between the Windsor St. Clair Rotary Club and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

In 2010, with the generous support of local industries and businesses, close to $66,000 was raised through this fundraising initiative to help fund research, health promotion and community improvement projects. These two important not-for-profit organizations share the funds raised to undertake much needed work within the community.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario leads the way toward greater understanding of the root causes of heart disease and stroke. This knowledge allows for early diagnoses and better treatments, while providing Canadians with critical information on how to protect their health. The Heart and Stroke is Canada's single largest funder of heart and stroke research, with hundreds of hospital and university-based research teams depending on donations year after year.

The Rotary Club of Windsor-St. Clair uses the money raised to benefit this community and beyond. In the past, monies raised at the auction have benefited projects like the Ganatchio Trail, Shanfield Shores, and the Rotary boundary-free playground in the Town of Tecumseh. Many families are also assisted on an individual basis, funds also assist a student bursary program and they also aid in Rotary's worldwide mission to eradicate polio.
