Aruna Koushik, our Assistant District Governor for 2017 to 2019 came to bring greetings and to present President Anna with a Ponnadai (pronounced Pon aday). In South India they honour individuals by covering the shoulders with this shawl. They do this for dignitaries, ministers, and visiting Rotarians. It is a wonderful tribute to the weavers of the town Kanchee puram who are famous for weaving these silks and silk saris .The tradition is over 2000 years old as Kings and Queens would honour their counterparts in this way. Anna was honoured to receive this gift.
